How can I, a common man, contribute to the safety of my nation...?

The spate of terrorist attack in India has reached a crescendo where fear and trepidation have lead to anger and hatred.

Anger, for the helplessness of the government, is vented towards the unknown face of the terrorist. In his dilemma, the common man takes up vile against the Jihadis, the Muslim Jihadis. The common man does not know the face of a Jihadi, but then the Muslims get targeted. Is this not against the principles of the nation built on the fundamentals of being a successful republic?

It’s evident that terrorism gets its impetus from corruption. Corruption gives way for these groups to infiltrate the boundaries of law. One can easily bribe his way into anywhere. So it’s the corrupt polity that should be targeted first.

Are there any good men? Yes there are and the system is still operating for them. But their valor will not be is rendered worthless if the common man aides him is small but sure ways. If the common man cannot prevent corruption, he can at least stop himself from being a part of it.

Many a terrorism incidents have shown the poor preparedness of the Police force. They lack tactics, swiftness and agility. Moreover they do lack the basic necessities required to make up a modern police force.

In such a situation, it is imperative for the administrators’ to improve the standard of the police force. Devote funds for the betterment of the force. Train them in lines with the best of the world. Give them technology, better weapons and most of all empower them with efficient laws.

Some attempt in the lines of the ATS in Mumbai has shown success. But a single ATS in a republic of 26 states is ineffective. The nation needs an ATS for every metro and a spruced up police force. But alas, corruption is whittling the taxpayers’ money into corrupt politicians’ Swiss bank accounts!

There were two ways for me to get my Driving License. One was to pay a small bribe and get it the same day, the other was to stand in a queue, visit the office twice and take a driving test. It’s not impossible taking the later step. I finally got my DL.

And yes, I do pay my taxes sincerely and insist on receipt for everything I buy!

A lot can be done. Can the common man be brave enough?
